After trying my hand at holiday door decor for Halloween, you can bet I was eager for another opportunity to decorate, this time for Christmas! I took inspiration from one of my favorite holiday pastimes, decorating gingerbread houses. How many of you spend time each year with your family customizing a house and decorating it? Kyle and I have made it a tradition to decorate our own unique gingerbread houses each holiday season, and this year I decided to take it a step further by decorating our actual house like one! Haha!
I took a lot of inspiration from the vintage blow mold I recently acquired, and of course, all of the past gingerbread houses I’ve built. When we buy supplies for decorating, we always try to be savvy with our funds, so we tend to use cards that give us cash back or shop sales! When you use the Capital One Walmart Rewards MasterCard for your purchases, you get 5% cash back on all of your Walmart.com purchases. Nothing beats making money back on what you spend, especially when you have to buy supplies like us during the crazy holiday season!
One of my favorite things to do when decorating is figuring out how to re-purpose common objects to meet my goals! We used these jumbo pool noodles and white duct tape together to make adorable giant candy canes, and they were super simple to make. We also bought these PVC pipes and used a red duct tape to give them candy cane striping as well! And since you’re able to use your cash back immediately on Walmart.com, the supplies for this project would practically pay for themselves!
Another thing I love about holiday decor is the amount of Christmas lights everyone puts up! Our whole cul-de-sac goes crazy, and when I saw these giant Christmas lights, we knew they’d be perfect! We spray painted a few of them different colors and hung them up above the door!
How pretty is this white wreath! Normally I opt for colorful wreaths but when I saw this on Walmart.com I knew I had to get it. Another great part of the Capital One Walmart Rewards Master is that you can use your rewards whenever you want, so you can use them in your shopping cart to buy whatever else you need, like the foam I used to make this cute little bow AND the icicles that are hanging down!
We also bought a matching wreath and garland from Walmart to hang around the door. I have alwaysss wanted to own a fun door that I could put seasonal wreaths on, and this is a dream come true!
And there you have it! Another holiday, another door decor! I think I’m starting to get the hang of this whole home-owner thing, at least the part where you can make your door look amazing. I can’t wait for another holiday so I can redecorate and save with a Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard, do you think New Year’s Eve counts? 😀 If not, then definitely an Easter door, right??
