#Awwpartment: Retro Bedroom Reveal!

FINALLY!!!! After much planning, waiting, building, painting, and power tool-using, we have finally finished our bedroom!! If you watched my stories, you’ll know that I was a little worried about showing you all the bedroom. The transformation definitely isn’t as grand as some of our other rooms, and the space is sooo small we could barely fit more than a bed, so I didn’t want the reveal to be super underwhelming. BUT a huge number of you sent me messages saying that you live in small spaces too, and encouraged me to share it anyways! Hopefully this gives you a little inspiration for some of your rooms too!

This is my favorite of the spaces we have redone so far, and it feels like it truly came together perfectly! I have learned a lot so far from redoing the other rooms, and I spent so much time making sure each piece we put in here felt right before sharing. Some of you might remember the wall hanging we were making for above the bed and wonder where that went. Wellll, we had it up for months ready to go and it kept bothering me every time I walked into the room. The colors and the size of it just didn’t feel right with the flow of the rest of the room, so on a whim, I decided to save it for another area of our home and hand paint this flower on our wall haha! We’ll get into more of the details below, but the flower “headboard” is totally my favorite part now!

This room is truly a blend of Kyle and I, and each item was one that we both picked out together; from the record cabinet, to the lamp, to even the plant! We wanted our room to be an homage to the 60s with floral print, bold color, and a sort of Hawaiian/Tiki feel to it!

The majority of the objects in this room are vintage, and I think it helps add to the character of the room itself, as well as provide a sort of history to it. Even though we love our high ceilings, they can cause a bit of a problem when it comes to painting or wallpapering. Our solution was to wallpaper the smallest wall, in a totally retro floral print, and then to paint half of the adjacent wall to give it a nice contrast! The play on color and space that it creates helps make the room colorful and still keeps it quite playful, which is really the best way to describe us!

Even though I love everything about this room, my two favorite things are our custom neon sign by Electric Confetti, and the floral headboard we painted on. If you didn’t know, despite not having a wedding, we did have a first dance after everyone left, and it was to the song “Just Like Honey” by The Jesus and Mary Chain. To help us celebrate it, we had a custom neon sign made, and put it over our record collection (and yes, we have that song on vinyl)! 🙂 Because of the bed frame we built, we weren’t able to have a headboard, but we felt like something was missing in that part of the room. Feeling a little inspired (or was it tired from all the renovating?!) I suggested we paint a mural to act as our headboard! Not only does it match the theme, but it’s something really unique. Talk about flower power!

It’s crazy looking at this room now and remembering when it used to be a space with just our bed and piles of clothes everywhere. Ha! I really couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out, and waking up to this much color everyday truly brightens my morning! I hope you all enjoyed the process and love the room as much as us! All of the sources are listed below, but let me know in the comments if I missed anything and you’re dying to know where it’s from!!!

Thank you so much! And of course, it’s a variegated pothos! They’re perfect for multiple different environments. 🙂

    1. Hi Kelley!
It’s from Audio Technica! Unfortunately I don’t think they make the pink one anymore, but they have other colors in the same style! 🙂 xoSam

  2. Whoa what an uplifting, vibrant design. And i’m not talking colors only, but the choice of decor and details is magnificent too, fits right in, well done!
