Dessert Hack! Mermaid Seashell Macarons

New series alert guys!!! I’ve been doing projects that one might call “dessert hacks” for a while now in my day-to-day life, and I’m going to be sharing some of them with you here! In my opinion, a dessert hack is when you take something you’ve bought from the store and change it up a bit to make it more interesting. So first up are these mermaid seashell macarons that you can make with literally ANY kind of store-bought macaron! These are such a party game-changer! I’ve only ever made homemade macarons successfully once, so being able to just buy pre-made ones and add a chocolate pearl makes life so much easier. Even though I make a lot of challenging cake designs, doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of a lazy baking project too. 😉

Any plain macarons
Vanilla icing
Piping bag
White sixlet chocolates (here)

1. Carefully remove one macaron shell from the filling. If the filling isn’t vanilla, scrape the filling off of the other macaron shell.

2. Put vanilla icing into a piping bag and cut about 1/2″ of the piping bag tip. Pipe frosting onto one of the macaron shells.

3. Place a chocolate sixlet on the frosting. With the other macaron shell, push the back into the frosting, propping it up at an angle.

4. Put the macarons in the refrigerator for half an hour to allow the frosting to harden, keeping the macaron shell in place.

So what do all you mermaids think?! I think you are all going to really like the hacks I have planned, and if you have any specific desserts you want me to try and think of a good hack for, let me know in the comments!

  1. What a great idea! I love this hack’s simplicity and the seashell cuteness. 🙂
