I have been so excited to do this Aww Sam NYC Tour that I’ve been anxiously calling bakeries and pie companies every week to see when they would start making pumpkin pie. And guess what?! This week is the week!! We’ve gotten through donuts, black and white cookies, and macarons, and we’re ready to jump right into things with PUMPKIN PIE!! Now, everybody knows that when Thanksgiving rolls around, New York is a mad rush for pie, and most importantly, pumpkin pie. I have seen lines at bakeries go out the door during Thanksgiving week, so if there’s one thing I know about New Yorkers, it’s that we LOVE a good slice of pie! SO in typical team Aww Sam style, we went all over Manhattan to find the best pumpkin pies the city has to offer (and trust me, there are some GOOD ones)! Alright, enough talk, let’s just get into the nitty gritty because we all know pumpkin pies before guys! (I have been waiting to do that for far too long. Ha!)
The Contenders:
Fairway- This pie was my least favorite. It didn’t have much flavor and the consistency of the filling was very grainy. It was on the cheaper side, but I wouldn’t recommend this even if you’re trying to save a little money.
Hill Country Chicken- This one was delicious AND adorable! I mean, have you seen a cuter tiny pie?! And the frosting on top was amazing. My votes may be a little biased because of that frosting alone, but the filling was also really tasty. Plus, a tiny pie is always going to taste better than a normal-sized one. (And they make a mean chicken and waffles, so make sure to get that too!)
Little Pie Company- Another mini pie! This one was pretty good too. The filling was kind of dense, so I definitely wouldn’t have been able to eat a normal slice of this pie, but it was definitely up there in the ranks!
Whole Foods- This was the cheapest for a whole pie. It wasn’t my favorite (it had a lot of nutmeg), but for the price, it wasn’t bad.
City Bakery/Baked- Like I said below, this one has a GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST! Also, the flavors of the pumpkin pie filling itself were the most balanced; there wasn’t one flavor overpowering everything else. You can also get this pie by the slice. It’s on the more expensive side, but it’s definitely worth it!
I took one bite of this City Bakery pumpkin pie during the shoot and I could barely stop myself from eating the whole slice. I mean, the crust is a buttery graham cracker. Doesn’t get much better than that!
The Winners:
