Tie Dye/Rainbow Marbled Donuts

I hadn’t quite jumped on the marbling bandwagon yet, but it was definitely something I’ve wanted to try, and I had quickly generated a long list of things that I could marble. Donuts being the first on my mind! (Obviously) I’ve eaten black and white marbled donuts before, and there’s one in my last post on New York’s best donuts, but I knew I could bring some more color to the table with these crazy TIE DYE RAINBOW DONUTS!! My brother has been calling them “unicorn poop,” which is pretty fitting I think. So get ready to be transported back to a time when we worshiped Lisa Frank and tie dye ruled! Remember when we all listened to Britney Spears and had a lava lamp? Yeah, me too.

Donut pan
Food coloring in red, green, blue, and yellow
Toothpicks

For the donuts:

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 dash nutmeg
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter (melted)
1/2 cup milk
2/3 cups plain greek yogurt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the donut glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 to 4 tablespoons of milk

For the donuts:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease donut pan with a spray or butter.

2. Mix all wet ingredients and all dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Slowly whisk the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Separate the donut batter evenly into four bowls. Use food coloring to make each one red, green, blue, and yellow.

3. Fill four piping bags with each color of batter. Pipe a yellow, red, green, and blue section into each donut cavity in the pan, filling the cavity only 3/4 of the way. Take a toothpick and swirl the colors around until they are mixed to your liking.

4. Bake for 8-9 minutes and allow to fully cool. Once cooled, dip in glaze and place on a drying rack. Enjoy!

For the glaze:

1. Mix together milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla making sure to get out all lumps before dipping your donuts in.

Are you rainbow exhausted yet? No? Good, because there will definitely be some more rainbow action on this blog very soon! Try these out with different colors too! I can totally see a marbled donut with different shades of pink turning out pretty darn cool.
